Flowering plants of the Vumba

This preliminary list is mainly based on personal observations made by Petra Ballings,  Bart Wursten and Mark hyde.  A herbarium of the listed species is available at our home, Ndundu Lodge. This list is still in an early stage, more species will be added in time. The draft checklist of the plants of the Vumba Highlands, M.A. Hyde, August 1997 has been included. Nomenclatuur has been adjusted according to A checklist of Zimbabwean vascular plants, A. Mapaura & J. Timberlake, Sabonet Report No. 33, 2004.

All species have been listed alphabetically by family and genus. Scientific names are given and, where possible, vernacular names in English and Shona are added. Letter codes have been used to indicate the Growth forms:

A: Anual; C: Climber; L: Liaan; P: Perennial; S: Shrub; sS: small shrub; T: Tree
