Red Stinkhorn
Inedible
A
conspicuous species, growing in leaf litter on the forest floor of evergreen forest and
exotic plantations. The unpleasant smell attracts flies which aid the dispersal
of spores. It is short-lived, usually lasting no more than a few hours. It is
somewhat similar to Aseroë rubra
but has thicker, unbranched arms, which often lie prostrate on the forest
floor, and the black clusters of spores are scattered along the arms.
