This species has an erect rhizome with tuffed, uniform, proliferous fronds which makes it possible for this species to cover whole rocks or tree branches. The pinnate lamina (100-300 x 15-25mm) is linear to lanceolate in outline. The distal pinnae are slowly decreasing in size and end in a naked extension of the rachis that bears the gemma. The falcate pinnae are very recognizable with their broadly rounded lobed  acroscopic margins . Up to 6 oval sori cover most of the pinnae, indusium present.
Ecology: Epiphyte or lithophyte in shaded areas in wet, evergreen forest; sea level up to 2000m
Derivation of the specific name: sandersonii : named after J. Sanderson (1820-1881), an amateur plant collector in Natal
Distribution in southern Africa: Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa
