This species has an erect rhizome with tufted fronds. The fronds are 2-pinnate to 3-pinnatifid, proliferous near the apex, the apical segment above the proliferating but has less than 5 lobes. The lamina (160-390 x 35-60 mm) is narrowly lanceolate in outline and has acroscopically developed, glabrous pinnae. Pinnae with 1-3 basiscopic pinnae lobes; the first arising between the 2nd-4th acroscopic lobes. One elliptic sori is centrally located per lobe, indusium entire.      
Ecology: Low level epiphyte in areas with deep shade and abundant moisture, from sea level up to 2000m
Derivation of the specific name: named after J.F. Drège (1794-1881), a German horticulturist and plant collector in southern Africa
Distribution in southern Africa: Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa
