 This fern has an erect rhizome with strongly dimorphic, tuffed fronds. The sterile lamina (150 x 80mm)is is pinnate and not proliferous. The fertile lamina (250 x 85mm) is pinnate and gemmiferous. The pinnae are smaller and more widely spaced towards the apex, have an unequal base and crenate to serrate margins. Linear sori are set at 45 degrees to the costa, indusium present
Ecology: Deeply shaded forest floor in low-altitude, evergreen forest, 600-1200m
Derivation of the specific name: christii: named after K.H.H. Christ, a German plant geographer & taxonomist
Distribution in southern Africa: Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe
